Gators Fall to Hanover in Consolation Game

BEREA, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators fell in the consolation game of the Baldwin-Wallace Holiday Tournament to Hanover College (8-4) by a 69-48 score on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Emilie Simone (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was the lone Gator in double figure scoring in the contest with a game-high 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting.

Allegheny jumped out quickly in the game, opening an 8-5 lead eight minutes into the contest, before Hanover scored nine of the next dozen points, pushing ahead 14-11. The Panthers’ first-half lead grew to as many as seven at 27-20 before the Gators fought back, closing to within three at the break.

After the Panthers hit a pair of free throws to start the second half, the Blue and Gold used back-to-back baskets from Hilary Collins (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) and Simone to close the gap to one two minutes into the period at 33-32. Nine straight points by Hanover pushed their lead to 10, as the Gators would only get as close as eight the rest of the way as Hanover out-scored Allegheny 38-20 in the second half, en route to the 21-point Panther win.

Simone hit 11-of-17 shots from the field, with Brittany Bell (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) adding six in the losing effort. Simone pulled down seven rebounds, with Stephanie Wolf (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Bell each dished out a trio of assists.

Hanover put three players in double figure scoring, led by a 15-point, 11-rebound effort from Torin Franz. Molly Martin also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, with Sarah Cobine adding 11 points in the winning effort.
