Gators Open Season at Kent State
Dec 8, 2007 KENT, Ohio – The Allegheny College men opened their 2007-08 track & field season at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala, and were led by a trio of personal bests in the 5,000-meter run along with a strong performance by junior Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) in the triple jump.
In the opening race, the 5,000-meter run it was freshman Zac Ross (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) leading the way with a fifth place finish in the 3.1-mile race, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:54.78. Matt Hoy (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) and Jakeb Zimmerman (Leechburg, Pa./The Kiski School) each set personal bests by running times of 15:45.68 and 15:46.23, placing 13th and 14th, respectively.
In the triple jump, McMahon leaped to a distance of 44-11.50, good for fourth place overall, and was the top Division III finisher on the squad.
The Gators continue their competition at the Golden Flash Gala’s second day on Saturday.
