Four Personal Bests Set at Kent

KENT, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators opened their 2007-08 track & field season with their first-day effort at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala. The two-day meet opened with four events on Friday night; the 5,000-meter run, pole vault, triple jump and weight throw; as the remainder of the team members competing on Saturday.

The meet opened with the 5,000-meter run, where four Gators, Eva Weyers (Delanson, N.Y./Duanesburg), Mia Symoniak (Amherst, N.Y./East Snyder), Rachel Hutchinson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Claire LeMasters (Shadyside, Ohio/St. John Central) recording career bests. Weyers and Symoniak finished 9th and 10th in times of 18:42.85, 18:50.70, respectively. Hutchinson took 14th place in a time of 19:23.70 with LeMasters finishing 18th, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:36.56.

Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) took fifth in the triple jump, an event she earned All-America honors in during the previous indoor season, leaping to a distance of 35-11.50, while teammate Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake) placed 14th with a distance of 29-6.50.

In the weight throw, Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) placed 14th overall with a toss of 48-4.0.
