Gators Split With Grove City

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's swimming and diving team defeated Grove City by a score of 152-130 behind senior Carolyn Nairn (Lubbock, Texas/Brownell-Talbot), who had a hand in four first-place finishes on the night while the Gator men's team fell 159-113 to the Wolverines at Mellon Pool on Tuesday night.

On the women’s side, the 200 yard medley relay team of Nairn, Erin Ham (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Regional), Megan McGuire (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic), and Ashley Whitehead (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) opened the meet with a first place finish in a time of 1:52.98.

Nairn went on to take first in three other events including the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.29), 200-yard backstroke (2:13.62), and 200-yard freestyle (2:01.52). Ham was victorious in two events, the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.27) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.07), while Whitehead took first in 50-yard freestyle in a career-best 25:54 and second in the 100-yard free (57.41).

Hannah Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Oakland Catholic) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.37) as did Alycia Conway (Lyndhurst, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) in the 1000-yard free (11:33.25). Rachel Dingman (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) followed Stewart in the 200-yard fly, finishing second in a time of 2:25.38.

Glenna Kramer (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) and Bridget Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took first and second in the three-meter dive with respective scores of 252.22 and 207.60.

For the men, Jayson Loeffert (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) placed first in both the one and three meter dives with season-best scores of 288.0 and 299.63. Ashton Kinney (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) took first in the 500-yard free (5:12.52) and second in the 1000-yard free with a season-best time of 10:39.01.

Ryan Lawrence (Union City, Pa./Union City) finished second on three separate occasions in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.96), 200-yard free (1:51.37), and 100-yard free (50.33). Cory Monroy (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos) was second in both the 100 (59.36) and 200-yard back (2:10.16), recording career-best times in each event, while Colin Gundling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished second in the 100-yard fly (57.64).

Including Kinney’s victory in the 500-yard free, the Gators captured the top three spots with Beau Whiteman (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) and JP Russell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) finishing second (5:24.39) and third (5:57.17) respectively. Alex Smith (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Area) took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:32.51 while the 800-yard free relay team of Kinney, Robert Schreiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), Whiteman, and Lawrence took finished second.

The Gators return to action on Thursday-Saturday, November 29-December 1 at the Wooster Invitational.
