Six Gators Earn All-NCAC Honors

November 14, 2007

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny men’s soccer team placed six individuals on the 2007 All-North Coast Athletic Conference team announced by the NCAC on Wednesday. Senior Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) highlighted Allegheny’s selections by being named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Sloan, who has earned all-conference honors in each of his four seasons as a Gator, was named a first-team pick for the second straight year after helping lead the Blue and Gold to nine shutouts in 2007 and totaling a team-best three assists.

Second-team honors went to a trio of seniors including midfielder Andrew Stutzman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), defender Pat Bowman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), and goalkeeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin). Stutzman and Bowman played vital roles in Allegheny allowing a conference-low five goals during NCAC play. Larkin set the school single-season record with nine shutouts and recorded the second lowest goals against average (0.67) in Allegheny history. He also set a new school career mark with 17 shutouts over the last two years.

Two Gators were tabbed honorable mention selections, freshman midfielder David Egan (Gibsonia, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and senior defender Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School). Both players scored once and logged significant minutes for the Gator defense.

Allegheny finished the season with a 10-8-1 record and a 5-4 mark in conference play while reaching the NCAC Tournament Championship for a fourth consecutive season.
