Gator Women Place Four on All-NCAC Team

Nov 14, 2007

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny women’s soccer team placed four players on the 2007 All-North Coast Athletic Conference team announced by the NCAC on Wednesday. Junior Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) earned all-conference honors for the third straight season while a trio of Gators were picked for the first time.

Murphy, a second-team pick in 2006 and honorable mention selection in 2005, earned second-team honors once again this season after scoring a team-high five goals from her midfield position. Sophomore defender Monica Schaffer (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was Allegheny’s other second-team selection after starting 15 games for a backfield that recorded six shutouts.

Sophomore forward Ashley Miller (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and junior defender Jillian Bolton (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) were tabbed as honorable mention picks. Miller was the only Gator to start all 18 games this year and totaled four goals and a pair of assists, while Bolton made 16 starts for the Gator defense and scored once.

All four of Allegheny’s all-conference selections are expected back for the 2008 Gators and will look to build on a 3-4-1 mark in conference play this season.
