Four Gators Earn Academic All-District Honors

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny College football team placed four players on the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division District II Academic All-Region Team announced by CoSIDA on Thursday afternoon.
Three Gators earned first team honors including senior defensive backs Jon Buggey (Homer City, Pa./Homer Center) and Curt Anderson (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia Notre Dame) and junior offensive lineman Andy Stas (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe). Buggey, a biochemistry major, has 40 tackles in 2007 with seven tackles for loss and four pass breakups while Anderson, a history major, has 55 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions, and five pass breakups. Stas, a biology major, has played in all nine games at left guard while earning starts in each of the last seven contests.
Senior linebacker Mateo Villa (Windsor, Ohio/Middlefield Cardinal), a managerial economics major, was tabbed a second team selection, starting all nine games this season with a team-high 87 tackles.
Academic all-district honors are given to players who have excelled on the playing field as well as in the classroom. First team selections are also considered for Academic All-American status.
