Gator Squads Fall to Gannon
Nov 3, 2007 ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny College swimming & diving squads fell at Gannon University on Saturday afternoon, despite setting three separate pool records in the process on the women’s side.
Leading the way for the women was Carolyn Nairn (Lubbock, Texas/Brownell-Talbot), who had a hand in each of the pool records, including winning the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:12.97, topping the pool record by nearly two seconds. The 400 medley relay team of Nairn, Erin Ham (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area), Katie Scherry (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and Ashley Whitehead (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) topped the pool record in a time of 4:06.56, with Nairn’s 100 backstroke during the relay also set a new pool record in a time of 1:01.52.
Scherry followed the relay with a first place finish in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:19.32, while Ham took top honors in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in a time of 2:31.39. Whitehead took second in both the 50 (25.27) and the 100 freestyle (time unavailable).
On the men’s side it was sophomore Ashton Kinney (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) who led the way by taking second in both the 500 (5:08.98) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:39.77), with Josh Sesek (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brentwood) placing as the runner-up in the 200 breaststroke. The team of Kinney, Rob Schreiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), Beau Whiteman (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) and Evan Lewis (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) took second in the 400 free relay, while Sesek, Cory Monroy (Goleta, Calif./Dos Pueblos), Schreiner and Colin Gundling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) took second in the 400 medley relay.
The Gators head back to the pool on Saturday, November 10, as they host SUNY-New Paltz starting at 11:00 a.m.
