Gators Shut out in Season Finale
October 27, 2007
GAMBIER, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators gave up two goals in the first 16 minutes of the game and were unable to recover, falling to the Ladies of Kenyon College by a 3-0 score in the season finale for the Blue and Gold.
Kenyon reached the back of the net just over seven minutes into the game when Rachel Goheen scored on an unassisted attempt, before teammate Amanda Drummond scored the first of her two goals just eight minutes later, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead. The Gator defense tightened for the remainder of the half, and did not allow another goal for the remaining 30 minutes despite being out-shot 8-6 in the stanza.
Thirteen minutes into the second half Drummond added an insurance goal, her second of the game, as it would be the final goal for the Ladies, despite out-shooting Allegheny 13-4 in the final half of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca O’Shurak (Meadville, Pa./Meadville Area) picked up the loss despite recording seven saves, while backup keeper and classmate Kelsie Mozzoni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) picked up one save in her 18 minutes of action. Seniors Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Meghan Borden (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford), Kristin White (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos) and sophomore Ashley Miller (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) each picked up two shots in the loss.
The Gators end the season with a 6-9-3 record while going 3-4-1 in NCAC action. Kenyon, now 9-6-2 overall and 4-3-1 in league play, advances to the postseason tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker over Wooster.
