Gators Fall in Four to #22 Hiram

MEADVILLE, Pa. – After taking #1 Wittenberg to the wire in a 3-0 loss a week ago, the Allegheny College Gators took a game from #22 ranked (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Hiram College on Wednesday evening, falling in four games by scores of 30-20, 30-22, 27-30, 30-17.
Leading the way for the Gators was Annie Schultheis (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) with 13 kills; the 18th time this season she has either led, or tied for the team lead in the statistic. Adding depth for the cause was Cat Van Wagner (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) who had 12 kills, her seventh double figure effort of the 2007 season. Amanda Bancroft (Centerville, Pa./Maplewood) dished out 46 assists, giving her 1,095 on the season, putting her within 26 of moving into the single-season top-ten in school history in the statistic.
Sophomore Alyssa Edwards (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) piled up a team-high 22 digs, moving her into fourth on the single season list, and currently sitting just seven digs away from passing her total from last year into second in single season school history. Schultheis added 10 digs for her 20th double-double (kills-digs) of the season. Aiding in the defensive effort was Van Wagner, Betsy LaPorte (Albany, Ohio/Alexander) and Caitlin Solan (Acme, Pa.Geibel) who each had three blocks on the afternoon.
The Gators end their 2007 season on the road, as they travel to Delaware, Ohio to take on the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University starting at 1:00 p.m.
