Late First-Half Goal Dooms Gators

Oct 24, 2007

Box Score

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators dropped their second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference game, falling to the College of Wooster Fighting Scots by a 1-0 count on Wednesday afternoon at Carl Dale Memorial Field. The hosts scored a goal with nine seconds remaining before halftime, providing all of the scoring in the contest.

The two teams played evenly for the first 40+ minutes of the first half, and the game looked to be going into the halftime tied at zero, until Wooster’s David Bates took a free kick after an Allegheny foul, sending it over the wall of defenders and into the upper right corner of the goal, just past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin).

The Gators threatened in the second half with six shots and four corner kicks, but none were able to find the back of the net, sending the Gators back to Meadville with the 1-0 loss.

Freshman David Egan (Gibsonia, Pa./Shady Side Academy) took three shots for the Gators while classmate Peter Subasic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) added two. Larkin stopped four shots in the game, while Patryk Tenorio and Jordan O’Boyle, Wooster’s goalkeepers, recorded three and two saves, respectively.

With an NCAC tournament bid already locked up, the Gators look to host a game in the playoffs, and will take a large step for that on Saturday when the team hosts Kenyon College in senior day for the squad’s eight final-year players.
