October 16, 2007

Box Score

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Allegheny women's soccer team (4-7-3, 2-2-1 NCAC) used an Ashley Miller (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) goal midway through the first half to defeat Hiram (8-8, 0-5 NCAC) at Robertson Field on Tuesday evening.

After opening with immediate offensive pressure, the Gators cashed in on an opportunity when a Meghan Borden (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) shot rebounded off the Hiram keeper into an open look for Miller at the 27:55 mark – giving her a team-best four scores on the year.

The Gators were able to control the pace for most of the half’s duration, outshooting Hiram 10-1 and taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

Hiram gained control in the second half, and had its most serious scoring threat at the beginning of the 62nd minute, but saw one shot hit the post and another turned away by Rebecaa O’Shurak (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) during a flurry in front of the net.

The action went back and forth the rest of the way, but Allegheny was able to hold off the Terriers to earn a 1-0 conference victory.

O’Shurak needed only one save for her second straight shutout while Hiram’s Emily Bristol stopped nine shots in net for the Terriers.

Overall, Allegheny outshot Hiram 19-5 and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. The win pushes the Gators' record to 9-0 all-time in the series against Hiram.

The Gators return to action on Thursday, October 18 with a road contest at Oberlin. The game is a make-up of a previously scheduled contest that was cancelled due to inclement weather on September 26. Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
