Gators Unable to Hold Off Wooster

Oct 10, 2007

Box Score

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Despite leading until the 67th minute of Wednesday’s game, Allegheny (3-7-2, 1-2 NCAC) fell 2-1 to visiting Wooster (10-3-1, 2-1-1 NCAC) on a cold and wet night at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

The Gators wasted little time in breaking their two-game scoreless drought, as Ashley Miller (North Huntingdon/Norwin) broke away from the defense following an errant Wooster clear to score her team-best-tying third goal of the season just 10:48 into the contest.

The action went back and forth for the remainder of the half, but neither team was able to build a serious threat, as the game went into intermission with Allegheny ahead 1-0.

Allegheny’s lead held until the 67th minute, when Wooster’s Emily Wilmers scored on a vacated net following a scramble in front of the goal. The game didn’t remain tied for long, as Angela Evans booted a Wooster free-kick from 50 yards out past Gator goalie Kelsie Mozzoni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), making the score 2-1 with 17:15 left to play in the contest.

The Gators were unable to rally back, as Wooster earned a 2-1 conference win.

Mozzoni recorded five saves in goal while her counterpart Abby Brown totaled three. Wooster outshot Allegheny 10-6 while the Gators held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Allegheny looks to rebound on Saturday, October 13 with a road contest at Denison – action is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
