Gators Take Allegheny Invite Title

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny College Gators brought home the 2007 Allegheny College Gator Invitational Title, putting four players inside of the overall top five.

The Gators carded a team score of 328, 22 strokes ahead of second-place Ohio Northern University’s 350. The Allegheny “B” squad took third with a 352, while Mercyhurst (370), Walsh (379), Washington & Jefferson (388) and Grove City (447) rounded out the teams in the field.

Leading the way for the “A” squad was Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), who tied for first, but lost in a tie-breaker, giving her a second-place finish with a 79. Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Kellie Gustas (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) each carded an 80 to tie for third, with Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) rounding out the scoring four with an 89, placing in a tie for 13th. Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central), who was the team’s top finisher in their last event, the Gannon Invitational, was the fifth finisher on the “A” team with a 93, good for 21st place in the tournament.

The “B” squad was paced by an 80 from Kristi Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center), tying with her “A” squad teammates for third place, with Laura Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) and Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Academy) shooting an 87 and 90, for 10th and a tie of 15th place, respectively. Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) was the fourth finisher for the second squad with a 95, placing 27th, while Hannah Schonau-Taylor (Newport, Ore./Newport) put up an 96, placing in a tie for 28th.

Golfing as individuals in the event, Kelly Dreher (Westlake, Ohio/Magnificat) and Courtney Klein (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) placed in a tie for 17th and 19th, with scores of 91 and 92 respectively. Katie Donaldson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) rounded out the Gators in the field by carding a 108, placing her 38th overall.

The Gators wrap up the fall season on Sunday and Monday, October 14 and 15 when they travel to the McDaniel Invitational.
