Gators Take Gannon University Title
Oct 8, 2007 ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny College Gators topped an entirely NCAA Division II field winning in a tiebreaker over Findlay University at the Gannon University Invitational. Both of the squads shot a two-day total of 621, however the Gators’ fifth golfer, Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), carded an 81, two strokes better than the Oiler’s fifth score of 83, giving Allegheny the title.
Kutztown took third place with a 638, while Gannon (645), Northwood (646), Wheeling Jesuit (668) and Mercyhurst (681) rounded out the varsity teams in the field. The Allegheny “B” squad placed ahead of Mercyhurst, carding a two-day score of 675.
Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) led the way on the second day for Allegheny with a 76, while Kellie Gustas (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) each shot an 80, giving the squad their total of 316 on the second day. Hilger’s score proved to be the winner for the Gators, with Kristie Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) scored an 84 for the tournament, rounding out the “A” squad team.
The “B” squad was led by Hannah Schonau-Taylor (Newport, Ore./Newport), who shot a second-day total of 81, with Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) shooting an 83. Laura Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) carded an 84, with Courntey Klein (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) rounding out the scoring four on the second squad with an 86. Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) shot an 89, with Kelly Dreher (Westlake, Ohio/Magnificat) shooting a 90, rounding out the second squad. Playing as an individual, Katie Donaldson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) shot a second-day score of 91.
The Gators take to the course again tomorrow as the team competes at the Country Club of Meadville in the Allegheny Invitational.
