Oct 6, 2007 Box Score
MEADVILLE, Pa. - Allegheny’s biggest offensive output of the season came at the perfect time, as the Gators (8-4, 3-1 NCAC) earned a 3-0 victory over 20th ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas) Ohio Wesleyan (9-5, 2-2 NCAC) on Saturday night.
The Bishops threatened early in the contest, but had a pair of shots turned away by consecutive diving saves from Gator goalie Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) in the game’s ninth minute.
Allegheny sustained the early attack from the Bishops and jumped on the board when freshman Peter Subasic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored his team-best fourth goal of the season with 24:48 left to play in the half. Larkin, with seven first half saves, and the Gator defense held the lead into intermission.
Despite being a man down due to a red card in the first half, the Bishops applied heavy pressure for most of the second half. The Gators were able to hold off the charge and eventually add to the lead when Pat Doherty (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville) subbed in and scored just moments later on a break-a-way, giving the Gators a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute.
The Gators added more insurance several minutes later when Eric Sloan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) booted a free-kick past the keeper, making it 3-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
Larkin was stellar between the pipes, grabbing a season-high 12 saves en route to his sixth shutout of the year. Overall, Allegheny totaled 10 shots compared to 20 for the Bishops.
Allegheny returns to action next Saturday, October 13, with a road contest at Wabash set to start at 11 a.m.
