Gators Take Top Two Spots at William Smith

CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Allegheny College Gators took the top two places at the William Smith Tournament, with the “A” team carding a two-day score of 674 and the “B” squad a 718. Kellie Gustas (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and Kristi Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) paced the teams by taking the top two individual places in the tournament.

The “A” squad’s total was 50 strokes ahead of third place Elmira’s (724), while the “B” squad finished six strokes ahead of third place. Nazareth (729) and host William Smith (741) rounded out the teams in the tournament.

Gustas and Archer carded two-day scores of 166 and 167, respectively, with Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenview South) rounding out the scoring four with each carding a total of 175, good for a tie of eighth overall. Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central), the fifth golfer for the “A” squad, shot a 178 over the two days, placing 10th.

Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) paced the “B” squad with a two-day total of 172, good for a tie of fourth overall, with Laura Burkholder (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) and Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) placing 11th and 12th with two-day scores of 180 and 181, respectively. Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) rounded out the scoring four for Allegheny with a total of 185, placing 18th, while Hannah Schonau-Taylor (Newport, Ore./Newport) carding a 190, placing 22nd overall.

The Gators look to test their skills against some of the top Division III teams in the country as they will travel to Greencastle, Indiana, competing in the DePauw University Invitational on September 22 and 23.
