Women Soccer Falls to NYU

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Despite out-shooting their opponent 17-15, the Allegheny College Gators (1-4-1) fell to undefeated New York University (6-0-1) on Sunday afternoon by a 2-0 score in Staten Island, N.Y.

The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the first half, with the Blue and Gold putting nine of their 11 shots on goal, but were unable to beat the NYU keeper, Katie Barnes. In the second half the Violets’ offense came was able to push the first goal of the game across the goal 13 minutes into the period, before adding an insurance goal with just under three minutes to play in the contest.

Allegheny goalkeeper Kelsie Mozzoni (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) picked up the loss in goal despite stopping six goal attempts, while her counterpart had 11 saves. Katie Murphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) had six shot attempts to lead the team, while Molly Waggoner (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero) added four.

The Gators look to rebound on Thursday, September 20 as the team travels to New Wilmington, Pa., where the team will face off against the Titans of Westminster College.
