Gator Women Lead William Smith Invite
Sep 15, 2007 GENEVA, N.Y. – The Allegheny College “A” team holds a 36 stroke lead after the first day of the William Smith Invite, with the “B” team currently sitting one stroke out of second place.
The “A” team carded a first-round score of 331, with Elmira sitting in second with a team score of 367. The “B” squad has a 368 with Nazareth (373) and William Smith (382) rounding out the teams in the field.
Leading the way for the Gator “A” squad was Kellie Gustas (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), who carded a first-round 79 with Kelly Archer (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) bringing in an 82. Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Laura Hilger (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) rounded out the scoring four for Allegheny by carding an 84 and 86, respectively. Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) was the fifth and final golfer for the top squad with a 94.
Leading the “B” team was Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) who carded an 89, with Julia Wears (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) close behind with a 90. Laura Burkholder’s (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) 94 and Lauren Torso’s (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) 95 finished the scoring four for Allegheny, as Hannah Schonau-Taylor (Newport, Ore./Newport) rounded out the five with a 97.
The team plays in the final round of the tournament on Sunday, September 16.
