Allegheny Victorious at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – An early second half goal by Alex Habay (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) was just enough, as the Gators (4-3) earned a 1-0 victory over Mount Union on Saturday, evening the Blue and Gold's record at 1-1 during their current three-game tour of the Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Gators controlled the pace for most of the first half, attempting 11 shots compared to only three for the Purple Raiders. However, neither team was able to crack the score column, as the game went scoreless into the half.
Allegheny finally broke through in the 54th minute when Jeremy Garbutt (St. Louis, Mo./John Burroughs School) sent a freekick into the box that was headed passed the goalie by Habay. The Gator defense did the job the rest of the way, holding the Raiders scoreless en route to the 1-0 victory.
Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) had a light day in goal, needing only three saves to pick up the win while Matt Mazzolini picked up eight saves for Mount Union.
Overall, Allegheny outshot Mount Union 18-8 while the Raiders attempted five corner kicks to the Gators' three.
The Gators return home to host Baldwin-Wallace on on Tuesday, September 18. Start time from F.B. Fuhrer Field in Meadville is set for 7:30 p.m.
