Gators Fall To #13 Case Western
September 1, 2007
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Allegheny’s men’s soccer team (0-1) fell short in its season opener, dropping a 1-0 decision to Case Western Reserve University (2-0), ranked #13 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), at the Case Western Invitational on Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio.
The game’s only goal came in the 25th minute when Case’s R.J. French scored following a Spartan corner kick. The Gators best scoring chance came at 52:35 in the second period when a penalty kick by freshman Ryan Fetterolf (Sewickly, Pa./Quaker Valley) was turned away by Spartan goalie Chad Skidmore, his only save of the game.
Senior Ryan Larkin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) had a solid day in goal for the Gators, recording 11 saves; however, Allegheny attempted only four shots compared to 16 for Case.
The Gators look to rebound on Sunday when they take on Lawrence at 2:00 p.m.
