Whiteside Earns Another Preseason Honor

July 31, 2007

MEADVILLE – Allegheny College rising senior Josh Whiteside (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) has been named to the D3football.com pre-season All-America team, announced on Monday, July 30. This is the second preseason honor for Whiteside, who earlier in the summer was named in Lindy’s Football Magazine as a 2007 NCAA Division III Preseason All-America First Team member.

Last season Whiteside was nearly perfect on his kicking tries, converting on 6-of-7 field goals and 37-of-40 extra points. Among his six field goal makes, Whiteside booted a 47-yard field goal, the third longest in school history, in the driving wind and rain of the team’s homecoming win over Ohio Wesleyan. His 85.7 percent on field goal tries led the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), while his 92.5 percent on extra points was the third highest in the league.

With the weight of the aforementioned statistics, Whiteside was named to the All-North Region First Team by D3football.com, second-team All-North Region from Don Hansen Football Gazette, while earning All-NCAC First Team honors.

The Gators open their season on September 1, when they play host to Westminster College, a perennial rival of the Gators, at the recently renovated Frank B. Fuhrer Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
