Whiteside Earns Preseason All-America Honors

Jun 11, 2007

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The start of the football season is still nearly three months away, however, the preseason awards are starting to roll in for senior kicker Josh Whiteside (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), who was recently named to the Lindy’s College Football Magazine 2007 All-Division III first team.

Whiteside was nearly perfect on his field goal attempts a season ago, hitting 6-of-7, with the lone miss coming with a block against Wabash. Among his six makes was a 47-yard field goal, the third longest in school history, in the driving wind and rain against Ohio Wesleyan University. The senior was also 37-of-40 on extra point attempts, averaging 5.5 points per game for the Blue and Gold. His 85.7 percent on field goal attempts lead the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) while his 92.5 percent on extra points was third best. After the aforementioned accolades, he was named to the d3football.com All-North Region first team, First Team All-NCAC and Second Team All-North Region from Don Hansen Football Gazette.

The Gators, who finished last season with a 6-4 record, kick off their 2007 season at home on September 1 against Westminster College starting at 1:00 p.m.
