OSHKOSH, Wisc. – In the last race of his track and field career, Allegheny College senior Ben Mourer (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) took 16th place in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III National Championships with a time of 15:20.52.

All of the runners were tightly packed for the first two laps of the race before Fred Joslyn of SUNY-Cortland opened up a 25-yard lead on the field, one that lasted just three laps before the field once again became a large conglomerate. As the group caught Joslyn, it started thinning with Mourer holding on to the end portions of the pack.

Mourer fell behind during the middle mile, but kept his spacing with the remainder of the field in the final third of the race, finishing the 3.1 miles in a time of 15:20.52.

Will Leer of Pomona-Pitzer won his second championship of the day, winning in a time of 14:25.41 after taking home a first-place trophy in the 1,500-meter run.
