Corkins takes 15th at Nationals
May 24, 2007
OSHKOSH, Wisc. – Junior Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) took 15th in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III National Meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, running the 6.2 miles in a time of 32:37.95.
The race started with a tight pack for the first 14 laps of the race, after a drenching rain poured on the competitors just prior to the race and for the first three-quarters of a mile. Corkins started near the back of the pack, but was easily within striking distance of the leaders until he moved into the middle of the back section six laps into the competition.
With just under three miles left in the race, the field started to thin out, and the junior briefly stayed with the pace, dropped back with just over two miles remaining.
Tyler Sigl of Wisconsin-Platteville took first in the event, running a time of 30:54.19.
