May 18, 2007 First Day Results
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Allegheny College senior Ben Mourer (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) improved his career best in the 5,000-meter run by a whopping eight seconds and his season best by 13 en route to running a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time of 14:34.79 in the 3.1-mile race. With his time in the distance event at the North Central College Gregory Track & Field Meet, Mourer currently sits 15th in Division III, moving up from 30th heading into the competition, as the NCAA brought 18 runners to the championships a year ago.
Also competing in the 5,000 was teammate Marco Dozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), who missed the provisional mark by 0:00.67, running a time of 14:48.67, topping his previous career best by 11 seconds.
Senior Pat Confer (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), in his final meet as a collegian, took seventh in the hammer throw, tossing the weight a distance of 160-feet, the second longest toss in Allegheny College history, behind his record setting toss of 167-8 a week ago.
The Gregory Meet continues through Friday, before the team comes back for one more week of training before the NCAA Division III National Meet, held in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin.
