All-NCAC Teams

CLEVELAND – Two Allegheny College Gator baseball players, senior designated hitter Jimmy Fernandez (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and junior pitcher Colt Viehdorfer (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) have been named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference team announced on Monday, May 14. Both players were named to the Honorable Mention squad.

Fernandez, left, the team’s only senior, finished fourth on the squad in batting, hitting .321 for the year, including a week in which he hit .875 (14-for-16) with three doubles and a home run, accumulating a slugging percentage of 1.250 en route to being named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Division III Hitter of the Week for the week of April 16-22. He scored 19 times on the year while also driving in 19 runs. He was also the only Gator on the team to have more walks than strikeouts at the plate.

Viehdorfer, right, led the team in most key pitching categories on the year, compiling a 4-5 record in 12 appearances on the mound. He started eight games, and pitched a complete game in five of those. He pitched 56 innings with 34 strikeouts against just 11 walks.

The Gators (14-23, 9-7 NCAC) ended their 2007 season in the first round of the NCAC Tournament, falling to eventual champion Ohio Wesleyan in two games.
