Gators Fall to 10th at NCAA Championships
May 10, 2007 HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Allegheny College Gators dropped a spot at the NCAA Division III National Championships, but still sit in 10th place heading into the fourth and final round of the competition.
The Gators shot a 337, four strokes better than their first-day score, but still dropped a place in the standings with 1,036 total strokes overall. Methodist has a 69-stroke lead on the field with a three-day total of 915, while DePauw (984), Southwestern (986), Gustavus Adolphus (990), St. Thomas (993), Illinois Wesleyan (1,004), UW-Eau Claire (1,012), Middlebury (1,027) and Olivet (1,034) finishing ahead of the Blue and Gold.
Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East), who improved her score by three strokes between the first and second day, improved by eight from her third round by carding a four-over-par 77, tied for the eighth highest score on the day.
Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South), the team’s top golfer on each of the first two days, carded an 11-over par 84, her second best score of the tournament, giving her a total of 253 strokes for the tournament.
Moving from the fifth position into a tie for third on the squad was freshman Kim Elam (Batavia, Ill./Batavia), who dropped her score by 11 strokes from the day before by carding a 15-over 88 on the day, after shooting 27- and 26-over on the first and second day, respectively.
Tying with Elam was Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley), who came back from a 23-over par round a day ago to shoot a 15-over 88 on the third day.
Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) fell to fifth on the team with a 17-over 90 on the day, after shooting 13- and 16-over on the first two days of the event.
The Gators tee off tomorrow morning in the fourth and final round of the competition.
