May 10, 2007

All-NCAC Team

CLEVELAND – Allegheny College junior second baseman Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) led six Gators on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference squads, announced on Thursday, May 10. Bodenlos was named the NCAC Player of the Year, and is joined on the first team by Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) and Crystal Ptacek (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny).

Also joining the aforementioned trio on the All-NCAC squads was Katie Wills (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour), who earned second team honors as an outfielder, while Elizabeth Burr (Farmdale, Ohio/Badger) and Allison Korotkin (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day) each earned honorable mention honors, Burr as an outfielder and Korotkin as a pitcher.

Bodenlos, who was also recently named to the All-Central Region First Team, broke the school and conference record for stolen bases in a season with 29, topping the former by two and the latter by seven, while setting the career conference mark in the statistic and sitting in a three-way tie for the top spot in Allegheny history. This was Bodenlos’ third All-NCAC honor after earning second-team All-League in her freshman and sophomore seasons. Bodenlos finished the year with 12 more stolen bases than the next highest in the league, while also ranking fifth in the league in batting average (.408) and fifth in runs scored (32).

Ryan, a sophomore shortstop, also earned All-Region honors after being named to the Third-Team squad for the second consecutive year. The 2006 NCAC Newcomer of the Year has now earned First Team All-League honors each of her first two seasons. She leads the conference in slugging percentage (.748), home runs (5) and triples (6), while finishing the regular season in the top five in batting average (3rd, .439), on-base percentage (2nd, .496), RBIs (2nd, 31) and total bases (3rd, 80).

Ptacek, who was named to the second team a year ago, got her bid to the first team as a utility player, splitting her time between the catcher and designated player position. She led the league in times hit by a pitch (4), which is tied for the third highest total in school history, while batting .286 in the regular season and .341 in conference contests. The junior scored a dozen times in 2007 and was 5-of-6 on stolen base chances.

Wills, a first-year outfielder, finished second on the team in runs batted in, while hitting .229 on the season, but hit a blistering .349 in conference games. Her 14 RBIs in conference contests was tied for the third most in the NCAC this season.

Burr, a sophomore outfielder, earned one of the three honorable mention outfielder spots after finishing fourth on the Gator squad in batting for the year, hitting .284 in 33 games, including .371 in the 16 conference contests. She was 5-of-6 on stolen base chances while picking up three outfield assists.

Korotkin, a first-year pitcher, has an 8-4 record throughout the 2007 season, accumulating an ERA of 2.31, fifth best in the NCAC, with 54 strikeouts in 91 innings. In league games, she was 4-3 with an ERA of 2.01.

The Gators, who placed third in the regular season and won the 2007 NCAC Tournament, face off against DePauw University today at 4:00 p.m. in New Concord, Ohio.
