Gators Knocked from NCAC Tournament with Loss
May 6, 2007 Box Score
DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators saw their 2007 season come to an end with a 9-1 loss to the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops in the first round of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament.
Allegheny, the hosts on the scoreboard, struck first in the game when Mike Pereslucha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kiski) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Alex Herrnberger (Eighty Four, Pa./Canon McMillan), giving the Gators a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Bishops added three runs in their next turns at bat, before adding a fourth run in the top of the sixth. Three runs in the top of the seventh, and two more in the top of the eighth gave the game its 9-1 final score.
The Gators were held to two hits in the contest, one each by Herrnberger and Pete Obourn (Farmington, N.Y./Victor), with Herrnberger scoring the team’s only run. J.R. Hess (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) picked up the loss, pitching six and a third inning, striking out four and scattering six hits and giving up three earned runs. Justin Abbott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-La Salle) pitched the final portions of the game, striking out two, giving up a pair of hits and two earned runs.
Brent Wilkins was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Battling Bishops, while Joey McDaniel was 2-for-5 at the plate. McDaniel drove in a pair of runs, with Wilkins crossing the plate three times. Sean Ring picked up the win, scattering two hits and striking out six in seven and two-thirds innings of work.
