Gators Lead Field after Day 1 May 3, 2007 NCAC Championships Day 1 Results DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators took their first steps en route to their fifth consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) title. Two individual titles led the Gators as the team took a total of nine All-NCAC honors in the first day at the 2007 NCAC Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The nine All-League performers helped the Gators to jump out to 83 first-day points. Ohio Wesleyan is in second place with 62 points while Oberlin and Wabash are in third and fourth with 24 and 21 points, respectively. Allegheny swept the All-Conference honors in the shot put, as the Blue and Gold went 1-2-3 in the event, led by Devin Cruea (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) whose toss of 48-11.5 led his teammates by a foot. Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) and Pat Confer (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) placed second and third, respectively, with tosses of 47-11.75 and 47-5.0, each. The Gators got two more All-Conference awards in the long jump when Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) placed second overall with a leap of 21-10, while Matt Yurky (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Center) placed third overall with a leap of 20-10.5. Cruea, following his win in the shot put, took second in the discus with a toss of 150-0, while Confer placed fifth overall with a hurling the disc 133-11. After getting two points from Peter Sotherland (Kalamzoo, Mich./Kalamzoo Central) in the decathlon, he placed third in the pole vault by clearing 14-1.25, while teammate Erich Wittmer (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) took fifth after reaching the height of 13-9.25. In the final scoring event of the afternoon, Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and Marco Dozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) placed first and second in the 10,000-meter run, Corkins running a time of 31:49.60 and Dozzi 32:14.69, with Jakeb Zimmerman (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski School) placing seventh in the race with a time of 33:31.37.
