Gator Men Gear up for NCAC Championships Apr 28, 2007
BEREA, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators are setting the table for the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon, as the team used a split squad to compete at the Baldwin-Wallace Sparky Adams Invitational while sending two athletes, Chris DiVietro (Wenonah, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and Peter Sotherland (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) to the NCAC Multi-Event Championships. DiVietro is currently sitting in seventh place of ten competitors, with Sotherland sitting in ninth with his top event, the pole vault, coming up on the second day. DiVietro’s high-point mark came in the shot put, where he defeated the field by over a meter, accumulating 576 points, while Sotherland’s time in the 100-meter dash of 12.10 gave him 631 points, his top point total of the five events completed on the first day (100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, high jump, long jump and shot put). At Baldwin-Wallace, Garret Piispanen (Fruita, Colo./Fruita Monument) placed fifth in the 800-meter run, finishing in a season-best time of 1:55.88, with teammate Craig Ball (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) running a time of 1:57.95, placing eighth. Matt Yurky (Homer City, Pa./Homer-Center) placed sixth and eighth in the hurdle events, sprinting to a time of 15.89 in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles, before running a personal-best time of 57.82 in the 400-meter version of the hurdle events. Chas Moore-Seymore (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Francis) took 12th overall in the 200-meter dash, in a season-best time of 23.00, qualifying for the league meet, while also placing 17th in the 100-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 11.45, also qualifying for the NCAC Championships. The Gators travel to Delaware, Ohio on Thursday, May 3-4 to compete in the league championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
