Cruea Named Field Athlete of the Week

Apr 24, 2007

MEADVILLE, Pa. – For the second week in a row, the Allegheny College men’s outdoor track and field team had one of its members named the North Coast Athlete Conference Field Athlete of the week as senior Devin Cruea (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) picked up the honor following his performance at the Indiana (Pa.) University Invitational on April 21.

Cruea went toe-to-toe with competitors from all divisions of the NCAA at IUP, including in the discus where the Gator senior won the event with a career-best toss of 152 feet, six inches, just three feet shy of an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark. He was the only Division III athlete among the top seven.

To close the meet, Cruea posted third-place finishes in both the shot put and the hammer throw, being Allegheny’s top competitor in the former event. He threw the 16-pound ball 47 feet, nine inches, easily clearing the conference’s qualifying mark. In the hammer, Cruea went off for a distance of 148 feet, 11 inches, marking the second-best throw by a Gator this season and once again putting the senior in good standing for the NCAC Championships on May 3-4.

The outdoor track and field season continues its season this weekend with its final slate of competitions before the conference meet. Allegheny will split its squads, sending athletes to the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., on April 26-28, and the rest of the team to the Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin-Wallace on April 28.
