Ryan Tabbed NCAC Player of the Week

Apr 17, 2007

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) left little doubt as to who the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week would be for softball, piling up some gaudy statistics last week in helping Allegheny College maintain its hold on first place.

The Gators swept a pair of conference doubleheaders with The College of Wooster (9-1, 11-5) and Kenyon College (5-4, 5-0) en route to improving to 6-0 in the league and evening its overall record at 11-11. Ryan played a major part in all four victories, including posting a perfect 6-for-6 day against the Fighting Scots. The Gator sophomore lit up the Wooster pitching staff for a quartet of extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs in the nightcap, tying an Allegheny record. Ryan finished with five runs scored, four RBI, and a slugging percentage of 2.333 against the Scots.

Ryan cooled slightly against Kenyon, managing just one hit in each end of the doubleheader. She also scored twice and drove in a pair, while slapping her team-best fifth homer of the spring in the first inning of game two.

Combined over the four games, Ryan went 8-for-12 (.667) with five extra-base hits, seven runs scored, and six RBI. She racked up 19 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.583. In addition, the Gator sophomore was unwavering in the middle infield, going errorless in 24 fielding opportunities.

Overall this season, Ryan leads the team in batting average (.471), hits (32), triples (6), home runs (5), RBI (22), total bases (62), slugging percentage (.912), and is tied for the team lead in walks with seven.

Ryan and the Gators will aim to continue their romp through the NCAC schedule by hosting Hiram College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 18, at 3:30 p.m.
