LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny College distance crew ran wild at the 2007 Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic, with three athletes, Ryan Place (Meshoppen, Pa./Elk Lake), Chris Corkins (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) and Marco Dozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each getting NCAA Division III provisional marks in their respective events.

Place led the way in the 5,000-meter run, finishing the 3.1 miles in a time of 14:31.02, a personal best by three seconds, and breaking the school record in the process, formerly held by Dan Princic (14:31.94 in 2003). Ben Mourer (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) ran to a NCAC qualifying time of 15:05.45, four seconds off of his season best, while Ryan Hansen (Presto, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and Matt Hoy (Moon Twp., Pa./Moon) each ran to season bests, the former in a time of 15:14.53 and the latter 15:23.01.

The Gators got a pair of provisional qualifiers in the 10,000-meter run, as Corkins and Dozzi also ran to large personal bests. Corkins, who finished the 25-lap event in a time of 30:37.15, 14 seconds off of the school record, set a personal best by 1:13, while Dozzi, who crossed the tape in a time of 31:00.59, set a personal best by 2:30.

Also just missing a school record was junior Matt Smith (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), who ran a time of 9:31.70 in the steeple chase, a new personal best, while the time was .15 off of the school record set two years ago by Chris Carrier. Garret Piispanen (Fruita, Colo./Fruita Monument) also competed, running a time of 4:10.50 in the 1,500-meter run.

The remainder of the Gator team is competing on Saturday, April 14 at the Slippery Rock Invitational.
