Gator Duo Grab NCAC Weekly Honors
Apr 10, 2007
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Junior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman Sarah Holick (Hillsborough, N.J./Mt. St. Mary Academy) were each named North Coast Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week following their respective performances at the Carnegie Mellon Tri-Meet on April 3.
Earley picked up the honor in the field events after a record-setting evening at Carnegie Mellon. The Gator junior met the NCAA Division III automatic qualifier standard in the hammer throw, shattering her own school-record with a heave of 173 feet, two inches. That mark is currently the best effort across Division III this season. Earley was far from done, adding first-place efforts in both the shot put (39 feet, 1.25 inches) and the discus (123 feet, three inches), as well as a fourth-place showing in the javelin.
Holick raced to first-place finishes in both the 200 and 400 meters, earning herself weekly honors in the sprint events. In the 200, she edged out the field with a time of 27.75, while in the 400, the Gator first-year easily sprinted past her only opponent by a seven-second margin, crossing the line in 1:02.39.
Allegheny’s outdoor track and field season continues this weekend with the Bucknell Distance Carnival and the Slippery Rock Invitational on April 13 and 14, respectively.
