GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny College women’s golf team dropped its team score by 25 strokes on the second day of the McDaniel College NIKE Spring Invitational, carding a second-round low score of 343, but it wasn’t enough to catch Kutztown University as the NCAA Division II school edged the Gators by three strokes for the team title.

Allegheny finished the two-day event with a total score of 711, carding rounds of 368 and 343. Kutztown held the lead throughout the tournament, finishing with a total of 708 strokes (363-345). The top two squads were well ahead the rest of the field with Washington & Jefferson College (740), McDaniel College (807), Gettysburg College (835), and Nazareth College (848), rounding out the remaining teams.

Sophomores Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) each claimed top-five finishes for the Gators. Bruckner finished as the runner-up at the event, carding identical rounds of 85, while Reints grabbed fifth with a two-day total of 178 (91-87).

The remaining three Allegheny golfers weren’t far behind, finishing in ties for ninth, 12th, and 15th. Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) led that group with rounds of 95 and 86, the latter representing a personal best round for the Gator sophomore. Junior Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) made a 12-stroke improvement over her first round score to finish one stroke behind Torso, carding an 85 on the final day to finish with a 182, while Kim Elam (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) rounded out Allegheny’s squad with a two-day total of 192 (99-93).

The Gators resume play on Monday, April 9, at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
