Pfeufer Tabbed Athlete of the Week
Mar 27, 2007 MEADVILLE, Pa. – Junior Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) started the spring exactly how she started the indoor track and field season, earning North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week accolades following her performance at the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational in San Diego, Calif., on March 24.
Pfeufer, fresh off earning All-America honors in the triple jump during the indoor track season, wasted no time in getting ready for outdoor competition, posting two first-place finishes in California. The Gator junior easily won her specialty, the triple jump, out-distancing the field by almost one foot with a leap of 36 feet, 9.5 inches. She also grabbed top honors in the high jump with a height of five feet exactly.
In her other two individual events, Pfeufer was close to another first-place finish in the long jump, falling just six inches short with a leap of 17 feet, five inches, while her throw of 114 feet, two inches in the javelin was good enough for fifth. She actually kick-started her season by competing in the heptathlon prior to Saturday’s meet, finishing 10th overall with 3,800 points.
Allegheny continues its outdoor track and field season on Thursday, April 5, taking part in a tri-meet with Geneva College and hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.
