![]() Gators Latch onto 7th at Jekyll Island Mar 26, 2007 Team Results | Individual Results JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Allegheny College women’s golf team opened its 2007 spring season in impressive fashion while competing at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on March 23-25, securing the No. 7 position on the event’s second day and holding the spot through the final round. The Gators improved their scores on each of the three days, carding a final round score of 331 on Sunday, March 25. With a three-day total of 1015 (350-334-331) on the par-72, 5,803-yard Indian Mound Golf Course, Allegheny locked onto the seventh position in the field of 23, finishing just two strokes ahead of Amherst College. Berry College, an NAIA school in Georgia, easily took the team title in its backyard with a three-round total of 947 (323-311-313), with its top competitor, Amy Goble, also grabbing individual medalist honors with a seven-over par 223 (79-72-72). Each of the Gator golfers improved their scores as the tournament went on, with sophomore Jaime Reints (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) making a dramatic nine-stroke improvement from day one to day three. After posting an 87 on the opening day, Reints carded an 80 and a season-low tying 78 in the final two rounds, respectively, tying teammate Alison Bruckner (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) for 22nd overall in the field of 122. The duo each totaled 245 strokes over the three rounds, with Bruckner shooting rounds of 84, 80, and 81. Junior Lisa Coleman (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier Central) jumped five strokes from her first to her final day totals, finishing in a tie for 46th with a score of 255 (88-84-83). Sophomore Lauren Torso (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) dropped one stroke each round, finishing with an 89 on the final day to tie for 73rd overall (270), while first-year Kim Elam (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) narrowly missed tying a personal best with back-to-back rounds of 90 on the final two days. Elam, who carded a 97 in the opening round, finished with a total score of 277 to finish in a tie for 84th. Allegheny continues its spring slate this weekend (March 31-April 1) at the NIKE Spring Invitational hosted by McDaniel College and held at The Links at Gettysburg.
