Mar 22, 2007 Box Score
WELLINGTON, Fla. – The Allegheny College women’s lacrosse team evened its season record at 2-2 with a 20-10 victory over Morrisville State College on Thursday (March 22) evening, closing its three-game spring trip.
After starting the season 0-2, the Gators picked up two wins on back-to-back days, out-scoring the opposition 33-22. Senior attacker Michelle Dudevoir (West Point, N.Y./O’Neill) led the way against Morrisville (0-2), netting a season-high four goals, while freshman Christina Zanic (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) tossed in three goals and added two assists.
After battling back-and-forth in the opening 15 minutes, Allegheny picked up its first halftime lead of 2007 with a 6-2 run to end the opening stanza, setting the score at 10-6. The swarming Gator defense made the lead stick in the final frame, forcing the Mustangs into a multitude of miscues.
Junior Ashley Hughes (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) chipped in with three goals against Morrisville, giving her a team-high eight on the spring trip, while Dudevoir and Zanic each finished with seven goals over the three games. Junior Laura Hoch (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) added a trio of scores against the Mustangs.
Freshman Rachael Coons (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), making the first start of her career, stopped nine shots to pick up the win.
Allegheny resumes action next Wednesday, March 28, as the Gators welcome Fredonia State University to Frank B. Fuhrer Field at 4:30.
