Pfeufer Earns All-America Honors
Mar 10, 2007 TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Following an All-America effort from her teammate, junior Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) placed fourth in the triple jump at the 2007 NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. She became the first person in school history to earn All-America honors in the triple jump, and she and Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) become the first teammates since 1996 to each win All-America awards.
Pfeufer, the two-time North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, follows Earley onto the awards stand, as Earley, also a junior, placed fifth in the 20-pound weight throw, breaking her own school record in the process.
Pfeufer advanced out of the second flight of competitors in first place in her group with a leap of 37-5.75, a total that put her in third place heading into the finals. Despite missing her earlier jump by just two millimeters (11.42-to-11.40), her first round total stood, as just one competitor passed her in the finals, as the junior finished fourth in Division III in the event.
Already an All-American after the outdoor track & field season a year ago, Pfeufer becomes another name on a short list of athletes that have earned All-America honors during both the indoor and outdoor season.
