GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gator women’s track and field team took second at the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships. Junior jumper Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic), left, brought home the NCAC Field Event Athlete of the Meet for the second straight year, after winning the long and the triple jump.

Ohio Wesleyan picked up the team title, scoring 183 points, while Allegheny (112) and Oberlin (106) rounded out the top three. Denison (60), Wittenberg (58), Earlham (49), Wooster (37), Kenyon (10) and Hiram (9) rounded out the field.

Pfeufer picked up her second championship in as many events, leaping to a distance of 17-4.25 in the finals of the long jump, moving to the top of the heap, just off of her career and school record distance set a season ago, becoming just the second Gator in program history to bring home a NCAC long jump title.

Pfeufer closed her day with a fourth place finish in the high jump, an event she was seeded fifth overall, while Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) tied with her classmate, moving up from eighth heading into the competition, as each cleared 5-0, a career-high for Straus by over two inches.

Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake), right, was the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles, sprinting to a time of 8.96, a season best for the first-year runner.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Gail Raspanti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Pfeufer, Rebecca Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Straus, pictured at left, sprinted to a third place finish, earning the quartet All-NCAC Honors. Also placing third for the Gators was the distance medley relay team, consisting of Kim Tranel (East Dubuque, Ill./Wahlert (Iowa)), Sarah Holick (Hillsborough, N.J./Mt. St. Mary Academy), Molly McGravey (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Lindsey Svetlak (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville), finishing the event in a time of 13:21.66.

Michelle Corkum (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) took fourth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:48.29, with Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) taking seventh in a time of 11:02.80.

Aiken and Straus finished side-by-side in the 400-meter dash, Aiken running a time of 1:02.46 and Straus 1:02.78, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Senior Heather Knupp (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), right, and sophomore Carley Latus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) placed fifth and seventh in the 800-meter run, the former running a time of 2:23.19, placing fifth, and the latter 2:24.46, finishing seventh.
