Gator Women Prepare for Championships

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Allegheny College Gators took to the track for their final regular season track meet before competing at the two-day North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in Granville, Ohio.

Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) took first in the high jump, leaping to a season best height of 5-0 before placing fourth in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 9.56, one hundredth of a second from the NCAC Qualifying mark.

Sarah Powers (Bexley, Ohio/Columbus School for Girls) took third in the 3,000-meter run, qualifying for the NCAC Championships with a career-best 10:40.25, a new season best for the Gators.

Katie Pankowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) leaped to a career-best distance of 4.73 meters, placing third among the competitors, and qualifying for the league championships in the process.

A pair of Gator throwers competed at the Mount Union Invitational on February 23 as well. Freshman Kristen Angelo (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) managed a personal best in the weight throw by clearing a distance of 41 feet, 10.75 inches for fourth-place overall, while also picking up a ninth-place effort of 35 feet, one inch in the shot put. Joining Angelo in the shot put and achieving a season best was fellow freshman Sophia Braden (Farmington, Mich./Roeper), who picked up a fourth-place finish with a toss of 37 feet, four inches.

The league championships will start on Friday, March 2 and will conclude a day later on March 3.
