February 22, 2007
Complete Poll (.pdf)
CLEVELAND – The Allegheny College softball team, which missed the postseason tournament last year on a tie-breaker, was picked to finish third in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) by the league coaches.
The Gators, who went 19-21 a season ago, picked up 45 votes and finished behind Denison (6 first place votes and 61 points) and Wittenberg (2 first place votes and 52 points). Following closely behind the Gators are Kenyon (44), Wooster (31) and Ohio Wesleyan (30). Rounding out the bottom of the conference in the poll are Hiram (18) and Oberlin (9).
The Gators return a key group of players, including 2006 NCAC Newcomer of the Year Rachel Ryan (West Salem, Ohio/Northwestern) and All-NCAC team members Abby Bodenlos (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and Crystal Ptacek (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny).
The Gators start their 2007 season at the highly competitive Sea Gull Invitational hosted by Salisbury University where they will face off against Christopher Newport (23-17), York (21-17) and Salisbury (33-8), all teams with winning records a season ago. The team will then travel to Kissimmee, Florida to compete in the Rebel Spring Games.
