Gators Compete at Kent State

KENT, Ohio – The Allegheny College women’s track and field team traveled to the Kent State University Tune-Up Invitational, as many individuals reached a North Coast Athletic Conference qualifying mark, and one who reached a NCAA Division III Provisional qualifying standard.

Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) continued her strong season in the weight throw, as she placed fifth overall with a toss of 51-0.25, an NCAA Division III provisional mark, a foot off of her season best and the only Division III finisher within the top 15. Earley also placed 16th in the shot put in an NCAC qualifying distance of 37-6.75. Teammate Kristen Angelo (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) also reached an NCAC qualifying mark in the shot put with a distance of 33-1.0, before launching a throw of 40-5, just off of her career best.

Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) placed fifth in a pair of events, the long and triple jump. Pfeufer lept to a distance of 16-7.75 in the long jump, while her 35-10 in the triple jump was also good for a fifth place finish. Teammate Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake) took 16th in the triple jump with a NCAC qualifying mark of 33-0.50, while also placing 14th in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.11.

Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) and Michelle Corkum (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) ran to an eighth and ninth place finish, respectively, in the 3,000, the former with a time of 10:48.36 and the latter a 10:49.96, as the pair was easily under the NCAC qualifying mark.

Carley Latus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) ran a season-best 5:24.40 in the mile, taking 13th among the competitors before taking 15th in the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in a time of 2:25.09. Both her mile and her 800 time were under the NCAC Championship qualifying time.

Sarah Holick (Hillsborough, N.J./Mt. St. Mary Academy) and Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) took 28th and 30th in the 400-meter dash, Holick in an NCAC qualifying time of 1:03.16 with Straus missing the by just tenths of seconds with a 1:03.45.

The Gators take to the track in a week, as the squad will travel to Oberlin, Ohio on February 23 to compete at the Oberlin College Last Chance Meet, before making the trek to Granville, Ohio on March 2 to compete in the NCAC Championships, a two-day meet hosted by Denison University.
