BEREA, Ohio – Allegheny College junior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) broke her own school record in the weight throw for the third time this season, tossing the weight a distance of 52-3.25, putting her securely in the top 10 in the country in the event, while placing second the shot put with a career-best toss at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-February Invitational.

Earley, who first broke the school record in December at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala, topped it again on January 20 at the Fredonia State Invite, before topping the Fredonia mark by over a foot at the Baldwin-Wallace meet. Her throw was also nearly four feet further than the second place finisher. She then took second in the shot put, tossing the implement 40-0.75, putting her over 40 feet for the first time in her career.

Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) nearly won two events, taking the top finish in the triple jump, while finishing a millimeter from first place in the long jump. The junior leaped to a distance of 36-2.25 in the triple jump, topping second place by nearly two feet, while finishing with a distance of 16-11.25 in the long jump, a quarter-inch behind first place. Katie Pankowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) took third in the long jump with a leap of 14-6.50, while Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake) finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 32-2.25.

Smith, a freshman, won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.15, while teammate Jessica Gratton (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) took third, sprinting to a time of 9.64.

Teammates Heather Knupp (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) and Carley Latus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) finished third and fourth in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:26.51 and 2:28.16, respectively, as both times were NCAC Championship qualifiers.

Freshman Gail Raspanti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took fourth in the 400-meter dash, finishing the two-lap event in a time of 1:04.44.

The Gators next take to the track on February 16 when the team travels to Kent State University to compete at the Kent State Tune-up Meet.
