Earley Lands Weekly Honors

Feb 5, 2007

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Junior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), a member of the Allegheny College women’s indoor track and field team, was named North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week in the field events following her performance at the Case Western Reserve Invitational on February 2.

Earley led the Gators to a third-place finish at Case by sweeping both of her individual events. First, she outdistanced the field in the shot put with a season-best throw of 38 feet, 7.75 inches, 18 inches better than the second-place finisher. The junior put the wraps on a successful day with a first-place finish in the weight throw, besting the field by over five feet with a toss of 46 feet, 8.75 inches.

A national qualifier in the hammer throw during the outdoor season last spring, Earley has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw with a school-record heave of 51 feet, 0.75 inches at the Fredonia State Invitational on January 20.

Allegheny’s indoor season continues this weekend as Earley and crew take part in the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational on Friday, February 9.
