Gator Women Take Third at Case

CLEVELAND – Led by a pair of first place finishes from junior Elizabeth Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township), the Allegheny College women’s track and field team took third at the Case Invitational, hosted by Case Western Reserve University. Earley took first in shot put and the weight throw, as she is leading the rest of the conference by over two feet.

The Gators scored 68 points on the Friday evening event, with Baldwin-Wallace College taking first overall with 97 points. Host Case Western finished second with 80 points, while Thiel and Notre Dame of Ohio took fourth and fifth with 58 and 57 points, respectively.

Earley dominated in her two events, winning the shot put by a foot and a half with a toss of 38-7.75, before taking first in the weight throw, in which she is ranked 10th in the country in, with a toss of 46-8.75, over five feet ahead of second place. Teammate Kristen Angelo (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) took third in the weight throw with a toss of 41-5.75, while also recording a throw of 34-9.75 in the shot put to take sixth overall.

Junior Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) placed in the top five in three different events, winning the long jump with a leap of 16-8.5, while taking second in the triple jump (35-6.5) and fifth in the high jump (4-9.75).

Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake) placed third overall in the 55-meter hurdles, with the freshman sprinting to a season-best time of 9.04 in the finals of the event.

Michelle Corkum (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) also took third in her event, running to a time of 5:29.94 in the mile run, while freshman Gail Raspanti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.67.

Next week the Gators split their squad, with portions of the team going to the Boston University Valentine Invite, and the others to the Bucknell University Invite.
