Gator Women Take Second at Relays

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Allegheny College junior Emily Pfeufer (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk County Catholic) placed in three events, helping the Gators to a second place finish at the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. Pfeufer took first in both the long and triple jump, while placing in a tie for fourth in the high jump.

The Gators finished with 76 points, 22 behind relay champion Ohio Wesleyan (98) and ahead of Oberlin (65), Wooster (53) and Denison (39).

Pfeufer leaped to a distance of 17-0.5 in the long jump, and 36-0.5 in the triple jump, easily out-distancing second place. Teammate Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake), who took second in the 55-meter hurdles in a tie of 9.18, placed fourth behind Pfeufer in the triple jump, with a leap of 33-0.75.

Freshman Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) placed second overall in the 5,000-meter run, two seconds behind the winner from Ohio Wesleyan. Classmate Kristin Angelo (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) also took second, finishing second in the shot put with a toss of 35-4.75.

Allegheny’s 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams each took first as the team of Gail Raspanti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Sarah Holick (Hillsborough, N.J./Mt. St. Mary Academy), Rebecca Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) placed second overall with a time of 1:54.23 in the 4x200, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Aiken, Straus, Jaime Shinn (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) and Holick finished in a time of 4:23.05.

On Friday, junior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) took 23rd in the weight throw with a toss of 47-10.0.

The Gators next take to the track on February 2 when they will travel to the Case Western Reserve Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio.
