FREDONIA, N.Y. – Allegheny College junior Liz Earley (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) broke her own school record in the weight throw, a record she set during the first meet of the season in December. She currently stands fifth in Division III in the event, one that she provisionally qualified for last season as a sophomore.

Early broke her school record by a millimeter, tossing to a distance of 15.56 en route to winning the event. Her previous record of 15.55 was set at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala in December. Earley also took first in the shot put. Behind Earley in the hammer throw was freshman Kristin Angelo (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), who threw to a distance of 12.74, good for second place among the competitors.

Freshman Mia Symoniak (Snyder, N.Y./Amherst Central) and sophomore Carley Latus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) took first and second in the 3,000-meter run, running to times of 11:10.9 and 11:14.9, respectively. The Gators also swept the top two places in the 55-meter dash, as freshmen Sarah Holick (Hillsborough, N.J./Mt. St. Mary Academy) and Gail Raspanti (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) ran to times of 8.00 and 8.10, each.

The 1-2 theme continued to the 400-meter dash, and the 55-meter hurdles. The 55-meter dash saw juniors Rebecca Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and Liz Straus (Kirtland, Ohio/Kirtland) run to times of 1:04.94 and 1:05.4, before freshman Hannah Smith (Rice Lake, Wisc./Rice Lake) and junior Jessica Gratton (Bridgeville, Pa./Chartiers Valley) sprinted to times of 9.44 and 9.75 in the hurdles.

2006 Outdoor NCAA triple jump All-American Emily Pfeufer (St. Marys, Pa./Elk County Catholic) took the top spot in three events, the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Pfeufer and Straus finished 1-2 in the high jump, Pfeufer clearing an NCAC Championships qualifying height of 4-10, while Straus cleared the bar at 4-8.

Pfeufer then took first in the long jump, where she leapt to a distance of 16-8.75, just off of her season best, before teaming with Smith to go 1-2 in the triple jump. Pfeufer leapt to a season-best distance of 36-5 in the multi-leap, with the freshman qualifying for the NCAC Championships with a distance of 33-9.25.

Michelle Corkum (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and Jessica Pennisi (Milltown, N.J./East Brunswick) also brought home first place finishes, Corkum in the mile with a time of 5:44.33 and Pennisi in the pole vault where she cleared 7-0.

The Gators next take to the track on January 26, when the team will travel to the Penn State University National Open on Friday night, before traveling to Granville, Ohio to compete in the NCAC Relays, hosted by Denison University.
